Eagle News and Graduate/Scholar Updates
Congratulations are in order: Our Eagle nest is becoming wonderfully cozy!! In addition to four new Eagle babies, we also welcomed a nest of new in-laws this year. Kara and Mariela both gave birth to our newest Eaglettes followed soon after by the birth of Brenda and Mark's son Connor. Rounding out the year was the birth of Patty and John's daughter Anne!
We also welcomed several "in-laws" this year as well. Congratulations to Victor and Jennifer on their 2007 weddings and to Sharif, Gen, and Dina on their 2007 engagements!!
Eagle Holiday Party: Our Holiday party has been scheduled for December 22nd. We had an amazing party last year -- many past graduates made a surprise entrance and made our celebration that much more special!!
Spring Scholarships: In January, scholarships will be issued for all Eagle students that have attended a goal meeting, have submitted their book assignment, and have handed in their Fall grades and Spring schedules. Scholarships will not be issued until all four of these requirements are met. It is important for all students to meet their requirements by the end of January. Thank you!
The Eagle Mentor Program: Our student mentor pairings continue to flourish. Those pairings with instant message capabilities enjoy utilizing this medium to "chat" throughout the month and students at the same school continue to get together regularly. We have successfully organized our "Eagle group dinners" in NYC, DC, Boston, as well as on the campuses of Yale, UPenn and Stanford. We were thrilled to hear that many students scheduled their goal meetings for the same day in order to get better acquainted or organized lunches during the break.
Internships and Research Opportunities: As always our Eagle upperclassmen are busy with their internships and/or research opportunities during their Fall and Spring semesters. We urge all students to take advantage of the opportunities for growth and advancement that an internship or research project can offer. It is important to gain the experience of hands-on personal knowledge of the career you have chosen to pursue. If younger students need help finding these opportunities for the summer months, please get in touch with the Eagle office before the end of December.
Leadership: In order to remain in the program, Eagle students are required to work toward and attain a high-level leadership role (preferably in their major - Biology, Government, Law, Debate, Business club, etc.). Freshmen are asked to arrive on campus and immediately get active in the their organizations. Sophomores are expected to become more active in order establish a positive reputation in these organizations so that by Junior year they have been voted into a leadership position in at least one of their organizations. Seniors have established themselves as Presidents, Editors, Captains or Directors and are responsible for running the organization. This is a requirement for remaining in the Eagle Program. Students failing to follow this leadership path will see it reflected in their scholarship award or may be dismissed from the program.
2008 Awards Luncheon: The Eagle Awards Luncheon will be scheduled for the beginning of August 2008. We will post the date here as soon as it is confirmed. As always, Eagle parents are encouraged to attend, however all students are required to attend. For this reason, we remind students to arrange their summer schedule to be in town the day of the luncheon. We look forward to seeing you there!
